Yesterday we had the pleasure of catching up with our friends over at Oculus Story Studio. They are truly paving the way forward for how stories will be told in the VR world.
During our visit we got to experience Quill. Quill is like having the world as your canvas and you draw in 3 dimensions… for real! Think, “Photoshop of the future.”
Here’s what Justin had to say about his experience with Quill:
“Stepping into Quill for the first time was a mind altering experience for me and one I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.
When I first started drawing within Quill, I of course couldn’t help but start with a two dimensional approach. But then rather than rotating the “image”, I stepped to the side and around my drawing. I then started to work on contour lines and building up form, stepped around again and started drawing in the other side of the character. It was definitely a moment of inspired and adaptive learning. A mix between drawing, sculpture, and something more.”
Justin experiencing Quill
“An important note about the experience is that it’s nothing like drawing on a flat piece of paper, or even large board or canvas. Instead there’s a feeling of being within a vast and open environment, as you sketch out ideas in the air before you. I creates an immersive and intimate experience when you can step into art and feel on an emotional level what the artist was trying to convey. So much more so than just viewing art on the screen. I’m kind of in love with the experience and I can’t wait to see how this technology evolves.”
The future is opening up in new incredible ways and we’re excited to be at the forefront of a truly new frontier of possibilities.
